CMYK uses the common conversion k = 1 - max(r, g, b) and c = (1 - r - k) / (1 - k), rounded to whole percent. That is a colour model conversion, not a colour-managed print profile, and it cannot be perfectly reversed for every colour. Contrast ratios follow WCAG 2.1: AA needs 4.5:1 and AAA needs 7:1 for normal text. Named CSS colours such as tomato are not accepted.
Colour Conversion With a Contrast Check
This converter keeps five colour notations in sync. Enter a value in any of the fields — HEX, RGB, HSL, HSV or CMYK — and the other four are recalculated at once, together with a preview. CMYK is computed with the usual formula: k is one minus the largest channel, and c, m and y are derived from it in whole percent. Below the preview the tool reports the WCAG 2.1 relative luminance, the contrast ratio against black and against white, and whether that ratio passes AA (4.5:1) and AAA (7:1) for normal text. The sample text in the preview uses the recommended colour, so you can see at a glance whether black or white type is the better choice on that background. The tool converts notation and reports measured ratios; it does not manage print colour profiles and does not accept CSS colour names such as tomato.
